Now EMDRIA Certified!

This week, I was granted EMDRIA’s certification for EMDR therapy. What does this mean exactly? Many therapists take EMDR trainings to use with their clients, but not everyone pursues certification. This path requires a therapist to complete at least 50 EMDR sessions with 25 different clients, undergo 20+ hours of consultation with an EMDRIA-approved consultant, complete 12 hours of EMDR continuing education, and demonstrate proficiency in EMDR therapy and its ethics.

As soon as I completed Basic Training, I wanted to go for this certification. I knew it would help perspective clients know that I am knowledgeable on how to use EMDR effectively, and I knew I would be doing all of the things required for certification anyway. One of the things I love about EMDR is there’s always more to learn. I still participate in monthly consultation because she is a wise sage who helps me better understand how to conceptualize cases and give me creative ideas on how to utilize EMDR efficiently with clients.

Recently, I have really been loving using the Future Vision protocol with clients - helping them visualize a better, different future and then understand what the barriers are to achieving that so that goal so we know where to go with our reprocessing. I also love working with moms who are noticing similarities in their kids or parenting styles to what they experienced growing up; by reprocessing the childhood memories, they are able to respond differently to life stressors now, making them feel more confident and capable in the parenting department.

EMDR really has changed the way I do therapy, and I’m super excited to finally be certified in it! Some day in the future, I’d love to become a consultant - helping other clinicians hone their EMDR skills. For now, I’m going to focus on my growing family, this growing practice, and the amazing clients I work with every week!
